The year was 1991, and Disney's in-house comics department set out to save money, cancelling some failed comics based on TV cartoons. Alas, in the process, basic production of original comics material was also cancelled-- and that doomed a fan favorite title, the all-new Mickey Mouse Adventures, as well.

But who says old wrongs can't be righted? As of this Wednesday, September 1, Gemstone Publishing has reincarnated MMA as part of its "Take-Along" pocketsize comic series. Not only are crackling all-new Mouse epics back, but you get 128 pages, four times as many as your big brother's MMA brought.

Our backup stories are nothing to be sneezed at, either. Some of you may remember Goofy's adventurer cousin, Arizona Dipp, from his 1991 debut. Now the great explorer is back-- but with a great problem. Too many jungle close shaves have given him a dreadful case of cowardice! And because "archaeology and mindless terror don't mix," Arizona and Mickey now must find the "Idol of the Scaredies," a famed courage-inducing statue lost deep in the Amazon. The saga is brought to you by Arizona Dipp's Italian creators, writer Bruno Sarda and artist Massimo De Vita.

Donald Duck finishes off MMA 1, because nothing says tail end like a fowl's south forty. In "The Mummy," by Danish writer Rune Meikle and Italian artist Massimo Fecchi, Scrooge seeks the treasure of ancient Queen Duckopatra-- and learns that Donald, in an earlier life as Duckamon, was that queen's betrothed. Now Scrooge wants a hypnotized Donald to lead him to the pharoah's treasure trove. But with an amorous mummy on the hunt for our hero, things begin to get dicey!
