National Sports Museum To Be New Heisman Home

The National Sports Museum, a 100,000-square foot project being planned for a 25 Broadway location in NYC's former Cunard Passenger Ship Line building, will now be the new official home of the Heisman Trophy.
Since the closing of the Downtown Athletic Club, which was located just blocks from the World Trade Center, the annual presentation of the Heisman has taken place in various Manhattan venues, but the iconic prize had not found an official new location.

The National Sports Museum is being considered a logical and auspicious choice, as it will be the first national museum to celebrate all sports. As part of the Heisman's new position at the National Sports Museum, organizers hope to include a permanent Heisman exhibit, as well as to hold each presentation ceremony there.

The building project should be completed by November 2006. This week, The New York Times ran an in-depth feature on the Heisman and how its placement in the new museum will help to rejuvenate Manhattan's landscape.
