Mickey and Donald Meet the Underworld!
An unexpected ad slogan, “As Seen On TV,” applies to Daan Jippes' opening tale, “Donald's Lighthouse.” Jippes was a storyboard artist on Disney's recent House of Mouse TV cartoons, and it's there that Donald's Lighthouse (1999) premiered. Now Jippes adapts the tale for comics, showing Donald's travails at the Quackbeak Coast lighthouse... and a pesky pelican's efforts to make his job harder. “Washday Washout” pairs futuristic inventor Gyro Gearloose with his time-honored opposite number, old-fashioned Grandma Duck. When Grandma needs to remove spots from a table cloth, Gyro thinks he can do it without soap! Fan favorite Dutch writer Frank Jonker joins forces with Sander Gulien, a Barks-inspired artist whose work is also getting raves in Europe today. Next it's on to this issue's piece de resistance! Gather round, lovers of great literature: Guido Martina and Angelo Bioletto present “Mickey's Inferno,” an Italian Disney classic making its English debut! After playing Dante Alighieri in an Inferno stage show, Mickey doesn't expect to be hypnotized by a crook and sent to a dream-version of Hades. But it happens! Mickey's inferno houses ghostly spirit-versions of his Disney friends and foes. To escape, Mickey will need to perform some kind of virtuous deed for the spirits. But how to redeem ghosts who are already doomed? There might be a way... but we're not telling till you join us! Wrapping up the issue is the start of a new ongoing miniseries: Donald, Scrooge and Gyro Gearloose in Formula One! Artist Flemming Andersen (Donald Duck Adventures) joins Per Hedman and fan favorite writer Pat McGreal for part one of a six-part story. Chapter one, “The Wonder Down Under,” tells how the Ducks unite to become a racing team -- and their trials in Australia opposite Team Glomgold!
