Action Comics #1 Listed on eBay

A restored copy of Action Comics #1 has been posted for auction on eBay. With the first appearance of Superman, many collectors consider this issue to be the most important comic book in the hobby. The cover date for the book is June 1938.

Many forget that the book is actually a great anthology with quite a few solid back up features. The book opens with the very first Superman story by Jerry Siegel and Joe Schuster. Other features in the title include Tex Thomson, The Adventures of Marco Polo and Pep Morgan. While the majority of the features are in color, the book does contain 12 pages of black and white art.

Superman gets all the attention, but the book also contains a memorable Zatara story with great pencils by the great Bernard Baily. Magicians were a very popular subject during the early days of both comic books and newspaper strips. Zatara lives on into today through the presence of his daughter, Zatanna. Since her first appearance in the Hawkman #4, she has become an integral part of the modern DC Universe.

The book has been graded in an apparent 5.0 VG/FN condition. The restoration is considered to be moderate. The restoration includes cleaning, pressing and reinforcement.

The book will be listed for seven days, ending on April 12,2006. Diamond International Gallery is listing the book on consignment. The opening bid of $25,000 has already been met. You can find the book at www.ebay.com. The item number is 6619929923.
