Smokey Stover Thanks You.

Here is a wonderful daily form Holman’s one panel Nuts and Jolts.

The response to Scoop's article on Smokey Stover has been incredible. If you recall, our September tenth issue featured America's Favorite Comic Fireman in its Main Event. Smokey Stover has long been one of the best remembered characters in the history of comics. In that issue, we featured an interview with Victor Paul Alsobrook, the nephew of Smokey's creator, Bill Holman.

Alsobrook has set up one fantastic website that not only pays tribute to his uncle, but features a wonderful selection of original Smokey Stover strips. The site also highlights two of Holman's other creations, Spooky the Cat and the one-panel daily, Nuts and Jolts.

Since the article appeared in Scoop, the site has experienced an incredible jump in the amount of hits it normally received. Alsobrook called the offices of Scoop the other day. Here is what he told us: "For a day or two after Scoop went out, there was a slight increase in the number of hits we normally get, so we were just thankful for that. Then on Monday, everything suddenly went through the roof! I couldn't believe the number of people who started coming to the site."

There was an even better benefit from the sudden upsurge in attention. "Since then, I have received numerous e-mails from people. They all have warm memories of Smokey, and they are looking to share them with someone. Many people are wondering how such a great character has disappeared from the scene. So many of the people are just so kind. It warms my heart."

Alsobrook tries to respond to each and every e-mail, but he is finding himself caught off guard. "The increase is continuing everyday since than. We thought it would taper off, but it hasn't. It is almost two weeks since the article appeared and every day, the emails arrive and the number of hits increases."

If you haven't visited the site, you can find it at http://www.smokey-stover.com. Scoop assures you that this highly inventive site will both thrill and challenge you.

Nuts and Jolts is still funny, even forty years later.
