An adaptation of Doug Liman's hit action film, Mr. and Mrs. Smith is heading for the small screen, possibly during the 2007-2008 television season, as ABC follows its long-held plan to develop a series based on the Jolie-Pitt film. The network greenlit an hourlong pilot this week.

The pilot will enlist the original screenwriting and directing talents of Simon Kinberg and Doug Liman, respectively. There's no word yet on who will star as the titular couple.
