MastroNet Sells 1909-11 T206 Honus Wagner Card for $205,831

A 1908 Honus Wagner card, graded Good 2, realized $205,831.

The first two days of bidding in MastroNet's Americana-Sports Auction have closed. The results coming in are incredible, including the sale of a 1909-11 T206 White Border Honus Wagner Baseball Card for $202,831. This amazing card is one of the most sought after trading cards in the hobby. There are ten examples of this card known. It was originally a give-away by Sweet Caporal Cigarettes.

Other highlights of the first day include a Babe Ruth 1923 H&B Side-Written Game Used Bat that brought $164,637. A bat used by Ty Cobb in 1925 sold for $83,148. There was also a 1915 Cracker Jack #30 Ty Cobb that sold for $82,356. Many of the cards offered exceed expectations.

As Scoop goes to press, MastroNet's Premier Catalog Auction was getting ready to close bidding on their last day of events. The Americana section had closed on April 13 (see the article in this week's Scoop) and the first day of bidding on the sports items closed on April 14. That leaves almost 775 lots left to auction on April 15.

We do have some early results on the sports auction. Next week, Scoop will provide complete details on the event. For a look at how the auction has been going, please visit www.mastronet.com.
