Marvel Comics #1 Brings $161,000
 |
|
| Marvel Comics #1, graded 9.0 by CGC, brought $161,000.00. |
|
The recent Heritage Signature Comic Auction closed with over $2.4 Million
in total sales. With so much offered, the results are still surprising. Many of
the lots exceeded early expectations. We can only say that the collectors market
is as strong as it has ever been; maybe stronger. Comics, original art,
memorabilia and books were all featured and as always, Heritage supplied
everyone with plenty of information and images to assist in their decision
making process.
Comic Highlights include More Fun #53, CGC 96, sold for
$77,625.00. A copy of Captain America #1, graded 8.5 with a Windy City pedigree
brought $63,250. For many the highlight was either the 9.0 copy of Marvel Comics
#1, which brought $161, 00.00 or the Pay Copy of Motion Picture Funnies Weekly
#1 that brought $43, 125.00.
"This is a wonderful wrap-up to a wonderful
year," said Ed Jaster, Vice-President, HG&A. "Without a doubt, Golden Age
key comics were the focal point of this auction, although we're still seeing
increased interest in Silver Age DCs. Original art, as always, brought
impressive results, with the Byrne/Austin X-Men #138 cover realizing $37,375,
well over its pre-auction estimate of $25,000. Wally Wood's stunning Weird
Science #14 cover was another standout, fetching $56,350."
"We're already
looking forward to 2006," said Jaster, "and we're hard at work on our next
auction, scheduled for January 20 & 21 in Dallas. If 2006 is even half as
exciting as 2005 has been, it's going to be a great year!"
