Hi-Yo, Hake's Auction!

The Historic Lone Ranger Contract

Hake's Americana & Collectibles is once again proud to bring forth yet another gem from the vault of cinematic history. In their upcoming December 13-15 auction, they are offering the contract Lee Powell signed to become the Silver Screen's first Lone Ranger.

While the Lone Ranger had adventures prior to 1938, the Republic Movie Serial of the same year was the first time fans could see and hear the Lone Ranger on the Silver Screen. Played by Lee Powell, this five-chapter serial was so successful that a sequel came out the following year and the Lone Ranger became a Western Legend.

This 8.5x22" contract is dated November 22, 1937 and stipulates that Lee Powell would play the role of Allan King/The Lone Ranger for $100 a week. Powell and producer E.H. Goldstein signed the reverse of contract. The contract came from the collection of renowned Hollywood music producer Snuff Garret.
