Early Krazy Kat Dailies in Cochran Auction

The work of George Herriman is celebrated in the current Russ Cochran auction. Among the 275 listings in the event are two very rare and early pieces from the great artist's history. The characters of Krazy Kat made their debut as an extra gag at the bottom of Herriman's The Dingbat Family.

One of those early Dingbat strips is offered in the auction. Dated to 1913, the strip holds a special place in the Krazy Kannon. Instead of a regular brick, Ignatz uses an ice cream brick!

The second Herriman daily offered is a stand alone Krazy Kat dated 11/29/21. the strip not only showcases the brick of Ignatz, but a special song (a Herriman specialty and much desired among collectors) as well.

The lots in the auction will be posted on eBay very shortly. The event is scheduled to take place on September 29, 2006 through eBay LiveAuctions.

Both strips can be seen in the catalog offered by Russ Cochran. A print copy of the catalog is $5 within the United States, $6 in Canada/Mexico and for $9 overseas. To get one, please call 800-322-7978 (417-256-2224 outside the US) or e-mail Russ directly at comicart@russcochran.com.
