Christie's Trek Auction Amazing Early Results

Christie's first day of activity in the Star Trek Auction is phenomenal. A model of the Starship Enterprise E was bought by an online bidder for $132,000. This is more than 10 times its $8,000 to $12,000 pre-sale estimate. A Borg cube model, measuring 30-square-inch (193-square-centimetre) used in the film Star Trek: First Contact, sold for $96,000. Its estimated value was between $1,000 and $1,500.

Another amazing first day sale was a chair used by Jean-Luc Picard that sold for over $62,000. Like almost every item listed on the first day of the event, it blew expectations out of the water.

40 Years of Star Trek memorabilia is on the auction block this weekend. Christie's Auction House, who is holding the auction, has struck an agreement with the History Channel to cover the auction live from their site. That means you can monitor the remianing lots in the auction exactly as they happen in real time.

The auction contains over 1,000 lots of Star Trek directly from the archives of CBS Paramount Television. The material covers the original show, movies and more in the Star Trek mythology. This means scripts, props, costumes, phasers and almost everything you could think of are in the event.

You can follow the event by visiting either http://www.christies.com/special_sites/startrek/overview.asp or http://www.history.com. Another link is available at the Sci-Fi Channel: http://www.scifi.com/scifiwire/index.php?category=0&id=38501.
