Fifth Carl Barks Estate Auction Launched by Jerry Weist
|
Noted science fiction, comic book, and comic artist authority Jerry Weist has announced his fifth sale featuring Property from the Estate of legendary artist Carl Barks. This is the last Barks Estate Auction to have across the board higher end lots, Weist told Scoop. Next year will see the sixth, seventh, and eighth auctions in the series, but he said the quality of the items remaining will begin to diminish.
Included in this auction will be the final Uncle Scrooge manuscript, and the final of Carl Barks 1960s large original oil paintings. Additionally, the event features a final selection of Artist Proof Prints and the last of the estate’s #1 Another Rainbow prints.
Two of the best lots by Gare Barks (Carl’s wife, a noted artist herself) include a huge sketch book and a scrap book along. The final smaller Barks church and portrait paintings are also for sale. Most of the remaining “finished” preliminary drawings for classic Barks paintings will also be offered this time.
In addition to numerous Uncle Scrooge and Donald Duck preliminary pencil drawings, a number of works by Italian artists that Barks received on his 1994 visit to Italy will also be spotlighted in this auction.
This new auction will include some of the last CGC and PGX-certified Barks Estate Comics. After this auction, Weist said he will only be issuing certificates from the estate, not submitting the comics for independent grading. That means those wishing to having the certified comics with labels stating “From the Estate of Carl Barks” should participate in this event.
You may find the new comic auction on eBay by searching for item numbers 190252929242, 190252931624, or 190252935507 and then clicking on the “Visit Seller’s Store – Jerry Weist Comics” that appears on the window to the right of each listing. This will allow viewing of his more than 100 lots available in this auction.
“I will mount my Fall comics auction in the first week of November,” he said. “This powerful auction will have CGC Silver Age, a diverse group of original owner DC and Marvel collections, a strong offering of 1950’s horror and science fiction.” He said it will also include original Fred Ray and Jack Burnley Superman works.
“I have also decided to offer private offerings with this mailing for some items that would normally appear in the November auction. You can contact me now about a private sale if you wish, if using Paypal or Visa you will have to add in 3.5% of the below asking price. These prices are including a discount since we would not be under loosing a commission to eBay. The CGC Superman comics belong to me, so if someone wants to negotiate to buy all four of them I might consider an additional discount. For serious buyers only, we will send very clear scans of anything you’re interested in purchasing from the seven items below:
