The architecture and design work of the San Diego Convention Center lends itself to an event like Comic-Con International: San Diego more than a lot of other facilities.

The architecture and design work of the San Diego Convention Center lends itself to an event like Comic-Con International: San Diego more than a lot of other facilities.

Darth Vader, made of Legos, stood guard at the Lucasfilm Star Wars pavilion, a grouping of many Star Wars licensees. The title for Episode III, Revenge of the Sith, was released during the show.

This Princess Leia at the Star Wars booth must have been the only one not roasting when the crowds reached their peak on Saturday. Note to con: order more A/C for Saturday next year.

The Lord of the Rings pavilion was awesome, too. Sideshow set up a lot of neat looking figures.

Also from LOTR, Ring Wraiths: creepy in the movie, creepy in the statues. Really cool.

Filmmaker Robert Rodriguez, seen here on the big screen in the Convention Center’s big hall, was on hand to talk about his new film, Sin City. It looks like an incredibly faithful adaptation.

Comics creator Frank Miller, likewise seen here on the big screen, was not coincidentally on hand to talk about the Sin City movie, too.

Jessica Alba, who plays Nancy Callahan in Sin City, was one of the cast members who also appeared for the panel.

Abe Lincoln, who was the spokesPresident for those cool talking Presidents action figures, really stopped people in their tracks. That was fun to watch.

One of many professionals irritated by the lengthy delays in pro registration on the opening day of the show. (Okay, that’s not true. It’s an Alien. You knew that.)

The Flaming Carrot appeared at the show just as a brand new Flaming Carrot story appeared in A-1 from Atomeka Press, which debuted at the con.

For a guy who’s no longer acting, there were a lot of Arnold-related items at show, particularly from the Terminator series.

Hellboy movie villain Kroenen, who probably lost a lot of weight at a show.

Show me the Mummy!

Shi creator Billy Tucci, right, with Catwoman. They’re just good friends.

Star Trek mini-busts… out in force.

Since most of the con photos concentrate on the people and events, here’s a look at the area surrounding the show. This twilight shot was taken in front of the Hilton Gaslamp, which is just across the street from the Convention Center.

From left to right in the San Diego night, the Convention Center, the Marriott, and the newly expanded Manchester Hyatt.

The daunting stairs that reach over the Convention Center. Many jogged up them. Few jogged back.

What do you mean you need to see my convention badge Do you think I dress this way all the time?
