Avengers Disassembled - Fans Speak Out

The Avengers series wrapped with Avengers Finale, which went on sale this week.
There have been lots of opinions on the results of the tumultuous "Avengers Disassembled" storyline that ran in Avengers #500 - 503, and they ranged from outrage to applause.

Our own Mike Kacala was strapped into a straight jacket for his own protection following the death of Hawkeye, which many people didn't care too much for, but a similar number actually don't seem to mind that the problem all along turned out to be the Scarlet Witch.

"The problem wasn't the Scarlet Witch now," said fan Robert Miller. "The problem was whoever thought it was a good idea back when for her children to turn out to be imaginary. Everyone acted like everything was normal, sort of like, 'Oh, they were a figment of her imagination. Okay, let's get back to work.' There were never any consequences back then. Now there have been."

Of course he wasn't the only one to let us know his thoughts on the subject. Here's a sampling:

Honestly.... I didn't see it coming... and I should have. The Scarlet Witch. It all makes sense. I even defended her against someone who was right. Can't believe I didn't spot it a mile away. Brilliant story. I hated to see Hawkeye die, but I thought he died well. I had only two problems with this story, and both problems are small ones. My first problem is that they didn't show enough Darkhawk (Hey, I'm a Dark Hawk fan, what can I say?). The second problem is that aside from Xavier, no one knows Magneto is alive, yet no one is surprised to see him when he takes his daughter's body away. Great story, great art. can't wait for the New Avengers book! Since Magneto is connected to the Excalibur book and he took Scarlet Witch, I'm expecting her to play a big role in the big X-Men event in 2005 that starts with the Dark Beast in Excalibur. Fun times!

The only downfall of this issue is that it is the last issue of the original Avengers series that has been continuous since 1963. It's really a shame that that it has to end. I don't think that a new series is really required, even with the current revamp. The roster of the Avengers has changed many times over the years, and they never had to start a new title to do it.

It was a bit of a let down to find that it was all just one member having a mental breakdown. I'm sorry that Ant Man is dead. Scott Lang was a great character, but I hope they keep him dead. He has no reason to come back. I'm sorry that Hawkeye is dead. Clint Barton was a great character, and I hope they do bring him back...There was no one else quite like Clint in the Marvel universe And bringing Hawkeye back would be very, very simple: No body was found. No body = No death.

I'm glad it didn't turn out to be Snapper Carr...Oh, wait, that's Identity Crisis. Sorry.
