Marvel Comics; $2.99

The big breakout from the Federal supervillain prison that served as the catalyst for the creation of the New Avengers is also the focus of this mini-series from creators Tony Bedard, Manuel Garcia, and Raul Fernandez. Bedard has seemed ready to really sink his teeth into something after several other Marvel projects (and as the next step in a career that's included writing and editing stints with Valiant, Crusade, DC and Crossgen) and the first issue feels like this might be the place he really cuts loose. The story fits tightly with the events in New Avengers and the current Amazing Spider-Man, but it has its own style and sensibilities. There have been a lot of Spider-Man mini-series in recent months, but this is one you ought to check out.
