The Spirit #30

Here’s the set-up for this issue: The Yakuza and the Triads are at war, and The Spirit's caught in the middle. Well, he’s The Spirit. He’s always caught in the middle, right? Doesn’t matter. They’re out for blood and he’s out to stop the bloodshed. In the hands of writer-artist Michael Avon Oeming, the reader gets an entertaining and inventive tussle between the city's most powerful crime families.
Oeming, who reinvents his art style for practically every project he undertakes, captures Will Eisner’s difficult combination of action, serious consequences and whimsy and makes it his own with a healthy dose of kung-fu cinema and samurai style. A nice, single-issue surprise for the week.
