Captain Action: The Original Super-Hero Action Figure

TwoMorrows Publishing; $39.95

How do you go "definitive" one better? We're not quite sure, but author Michael Eury and the folks at TwoMorrows Publishing seem to have a really solid idea about how to do it.

“When the first edition of Michael Eury’s superb book Captain Action: The Original Super-Hero Action Figure was released, it was rightly referred to by some as a virtual ‘how to’ guide to doing a character-centric reference book. It reached longtime serious collectors, turned casual Captain Action fans into die-hard enthusiasts, and brought many new fans to the character,” said Melissa Bowersox, Executive Vice-President of Geppi's Entertainment Musum said recently.

Somehow the new version managed to go it several steps better. Like the original, the new edition chronicles the history of this quick-changing champion, including photos of virtually every Captain Action product ever released. It includes spotlights on Action Boy and Dr. Evil, an examination of his comic book appearances, and nearly every facet of the character’s existence is put under the microscope.

It starts with an introduction from artist Murphy Anderson, who worked on the original packaging for the toy line, and goes from there, ranging from the earliest concept stages to the multiple (and supposedly final) demises of the character.

To all of this it adds full color, a beautiful hardcover package, and very nice, clear design work. It's packed with more information than the first edition (including developments since the first edition was released) and it gives up none of what came before.

If you missed it the first time, check it out now... and don't miss it!
